According to local legend, embroidery has been practiced by villagers for thousands of years, from 1225-1400, when the Tran Kings arrived in the Ninh Binh region.
Queen Tran Thi Dung would give embroidery classes to local residents for the needs of the royal court and for the decoration of temples, pagodas and town halls.
This ancient craft has been preserved since then. Van Lam village in Ninh Binh is considered to be one of the cradles of traditional embroidery, where all its inhabitants, young or old, work with their agile and flexible hands.
